Martial Arts tradition fading away
« on: February 18, 2009, 07:40:42 AM »

I have taught martial arts for almost forty years since I arrived on Rubi-Ka in my early 20's.

Now I am sixty, losing my hair and also losing hope to see young ones take up the ancient tradition of the martial arts. Fewer neutrals have become martial artists in the past decade.

When I started as an instructor there would be two dozens people eager to learn every year. These days, I'm lucky to find one in a year.

Nanotechnology has been replacing true skills. The mysterious symbiants from that shadowlands dimension enhance people's bodies faster than light it seems. What happened to meditation under a waterfall? running up mountains or just practicing moves in the forest?

I haven't seen anyone do those things, at least in the past five years.

It seems like it's more convenient to just upload some nanos on your NCU and slap some fancy implants or symbiants and save 20 years of honest hard work. It began as an omni attitude for "efficiency". Then the clans, of course, didn't want to allow their enemy to have an edge.

So after both sides began doing this, fellow neutrals slowly fell into this pitfall. I spend more time dealing with disrespectful youths making fun of my accent than teaching anyone at all.

Well that, and kicking Borealis Omni-Pol guards in the face, for illegally occupying the town. I hold no hope for a change in this; it is likely that after I'm gone nobody will be my successor.

Because the bottom line here is that rubikans have no respect for traditions anymore, be it martial arts or anything else of worth. As my old teacher used to say "May the bliss of enlightenment hit you on the head".

Sincerely

Master Hung
